eccentric源自拉丁语ex centrum（不在正中，不正圆的，偏离中心），原本是一个天文学术语，16世纪初只用于本义。到了17世纪，eccentric的词义才逐渐引申为“古怪的、怪癖的、异乎寻常的”，用于形容人或者人的行为举止等。
